With 1200+ lawyers, 300+ partners, 28 offices and 17 jurisdictions we are looking to expand our Risk Management  team, with the addition of a Risk Lawyer.

 

The opportunity for you

 

This role will sit within the Risk Management team based in London and will report to the Head of Risk.  The successful candidate will also work directly with the Director of Risk on some of the regulatory matters set out below.

 

The current team is comprised of the Director of Risk, the Head of Risk, a Senior Risk Lawyer who focusses on insurance and claims, a Senior Data Protection Lawyer, an International Risk lawyer who provides support to some of the firm's overseas offices and a paralegal who are all based in London and a Business Acceptance team which is based in Liverpool.  The team supports the UK business and some of the firm's international offices.

 

Key responsibilities

 

The role is focussed on general regulatory compliance and will respond to the demands of the business and the focus of the SRA at any given time.  We are looking for an experienced and adaptable Risk Lawyer who can turn their hand to the requirements of the business.

 

The main responsibilities will include:-

  • Reviewing, updating and maintaining the firm's engagement letters and Terms of Business;
  • Reviewing and commenting on client Outside Counsel Guidelines and other client terms and engagement terms provided by overseas lawyers;
  • Horizon scanning to ensure that we are able to plan in advance for new regulatory guidance and other legislation affecting the firm;
  • Conducting legal research, particularly in relation to the firm's obligations under the SRA's Standards and Regulations and advising the fee-earners as necessary;
  • Drafting risk related documents and policies and internal updates;
  • Preparing training materials for inductions and other risk related training sessions and delivering training as necessary on regulatory issues;
  • Maintaining all risk related registers and schedules;
  • Dealing with risk related queries in pitch documents and supplier questionnaires and sometimes assisting in co-ordinating responses to such document;
  • Assisting with a broad range of ad hoc risk related queries sent to the firm's risk management inbox.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience

 

  • Qualified solicitor, preferably with experience of working in a large firm, and at least 3 years' experience of SRA regulation;
  • Working knowledge of regulatory issues affecting solicitors and demonstrable interest in risk and compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust within the business and the team.
  • Practical and able to provide clearly thought out, pragmatic and creative solutions.
  • Able to remain calm and professional when working under pressure.
  • Team- oriented and willing to assist others in the team when necessary.
  • Understands own limitations and able to ask for support.
