With 1000+ lawyers, 300+ partners, 29 offices and 17 jurisdictions we are looking to expand our Risk Management team, with the addition of a Risk Lawyer - International and Projects.
The opportunity for you
This role sits within the UK Risk Management Team based in the London office and reports to the Director of Risk. The role will involve dealing with all aspects of risk and compliance for the Taylor Wessing offices in Dubai, Ireland and California (the International Jurisdictions) and for other international offices which may be opened by Taylor Wessing UK. It will also include liaison with the Risk teams in the firm's other international offices which include Germany, France, the Netherlands, the CEE and Hong Kong. The role will also include dealing with the Risk aspects of some of the firm's projects as they arise.
Key responsibilities
International
- Acting as the main Risk point of contact for the International Jurisdictions and working with the broader Risk team to resolve queries arising.
- Drafting and updating Risk policies for the International Jurisdictions, based on the existing UK policies but tailored to regulation in the particular jurisdiction concerned
- Assisting with the management of the firm's engagement documentation and Terms of Business for the International Jurisdictions and reviewing and updating them as required;
- Assisting in the updating of engagement documentation and Terms of Business for international engagements across the Verein;
- Supporting the Director of Risk (who is also the firm's COLP) in respect of satisfying all regulatory requirements in the International Jurisdictions and providing guidance to those jurisdictions on professional conduct issues;
- Horizon scanning in relation to regulatory issues likely to affect the International Jurisdictions;
- Delivering training on risk issues to the International Jurisdictions;
- Maintaining breaches registers and other registers in order to satisfy regulatory and legislative requirements in the International Jurisdictions;
- Representing the UK Risk team on international projects to ensure risk issues are considered from the outset;
- Organising meetings of the International Risk Management Committee including drafting the agenda and writing the minutes for those meetings;
- Supporting other business services teams and practice area groups with ad hoc queries about risk issues arising in the International Jurisdictions.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- A person with at least 4 years' experience in a risk and compliance role in a commercial international law firm.
- Working knowledge of regulatory issues affecting solicitors and lawyers in different jurisdictions.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust within the business and in the team. Able to provide pragmatic, commercial and creative solutions under pressure;
- Ability to challenge where required and still maintain relationships, especially in the face of
- competing demands. Ensuring that knowledge is shared with others in the relevant manner, be it in team meetings, training sessions or via policy.
- Pro-actively supporting the rest of the risk management team, demonstrating initiative, independence and teamwork.
- Ability to ensure wider remit and firm objectives are being considered in the context of advice provided.
