With 1200+ lawyers, 300+ partners, 28 offices and 17 jurisdictions we are looking to expand our Responsible Business team, with the addition of a Responsible Business Senior Manager.
Meet the team
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a clear contribution to the ongoing responsible business agenda within our growing Responsible Business team at global law firm Taylor Wessing. This is a new role, and as a member of the Responsible Business and Inclusion Boards you’ll be a trusted advisor to our networks and leadership teams. You’ll have the opportunity to build connections across our firm to advance our inclusive culture. Our responsible business strategies are at the heart of our business, and we are always looking at new ways to make progress. Creativity, commerciality and a forward-thinking approach will be key to this role.
You’ll work closely with and be supported by our Responsible Business Partner, Director of Talent, Head of Talent Development and Inclusion, Head of Sustainability, Senior Responsible Business Advisor, Responsible Business Inclusion Advisor and Responsible Business Assistant. Working across our inclusion agendas, this individual will play a key role in building on the current success of our gender balance and race and ethnicity inclusion strategies. The opportunity for you
You will make a valued contribution by delivering a variety of responsible business and inclusion responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
Strategy development and implementation
- As a trusted advisor, identify key areas of focus for various inclusion agendas including gender balance and race and ethnicity. (With more emphasis on strategic focus on race and ethnicity strategy, as well as our gender goals.)
- Work closely with Inclusion partners and network co-chairs to implement key activities throughout the year.
- Active member of our Inclusion Board.
- Develop and implement strategies for different inclusion strands, including gender balance, race and ethnicity, LGBTQ+, social mobility, disability, neurodiversity and wellbeing.
- Design and deliver culture change programmes which support our inclusion priorities for the year.
- Work closely with the Responsible Business team on any firmwide or inclusion agenda-specific initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues in international offices to support their inclusion agendas.
- Share recommendations to ensure we continue we create a sense of belonging for all our people.
Management:
- Lead a team comprising Responsible Business Advisor, Responsible Business Inclusion Advisor and Responsible Business Assistant.
- Provide mentorship, guidance and support.
- Foster collaborative team environment focused on shared objective and working in collaboration and support with other members of the talent team and broader firm.
Network management - senior oversight
Working with the RB Inclusion Advisor to:
- Develop network objectives and review on an annual basis.
- Be a supportive adviser and empathetic leader for network members when working with them to organise activities relevant to network objectives.
- Monitor progress with network objectives.
- Attend network meetings when required.
- Work with networks on their calendar of events and programmes to progress inclusion aims.
- Empower and guide our network colleagues to organise events and put ideas into action throughout the year.
Community – senior oversight
Work with the RB Advisor to:
- Set direction for community activities to ensure delivery against our strategy and ensuring impact on our local communities.
- Lead initiatives to engage with local communities through volunteer programmes, fundraising and partnerships with charitable organisations.
- Measure impact of community engagement activities; identify opportunities for increased involvement by our people and clients.
- Coordinate with the pro bono lawyer to ensure pro bono activities are aligned with our strategy and achieving objectives.
- Supporting our strategic partnership with the Roundhouse.
Building relationships
- Connect and be a trusted adviser to the Board, senior leaders, partners. managers and colleagues.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Talent team to ensure inclusion is embedded in talent programmes and activities.
- Manage relationships and partnerships with relevant external organisations.
Building allyship
- Engage with our people to champion allyship and equip them with information and resources to be active allies.
- Organise or facilitate relevant awareness sessions (or source suitable providers for any programmes).
- Review our Speak Up approach for our people as and when required.
- Equipping our senior contacts and colleagues to be the best allies possible.
- Diversity data and reporting.
- Contributing to the monthly Board reports on diversity and inclusion activity.
- Organising our Pay Gap Reporting and other reports required for monitoring purposes.
- Working with diversity data to identify priorities and areas for further improvement.
- Advise on communication and engagement plans to encourage higher completion rates of diversity data surveys.
- Collaborate with our Business Development Marketing Communications (“BDMC”) team to contribute information for client programmes or pitch processes.
Internal and external communications
- Work closely with internal and external communications to devise communication plans and campaigns to raise awareness and profile for various diversity and inclusion initiatives.
- Write communications for internal platforms including the intranet and email bulletins.
- Responsible for preparing external communications with relevant support from our external communications and PR team.
Talent acquisition and early careers programmes
- Advise and implement programmes to help attract talent when working closely with talent recruitment colleagues.
- Collaborate with external organisations who are working with under-represented groups in the sector.
- Working with our early Talent team, organise any relevant early careers programmes to diversity our talent and future pipeline.
Talent Development programmes
- Advise on all Talent Development to ensure our programmes are inclusive and have inclusion elements in them where appropriate.
- Co-design inclusion programmes to deliver to the business e.g. Inclusive Leadership.
- Collaborate with external organisations who are working with under-represented groups in the sector and advise where the business could be doing more with these groups other than our Amplify programme.
People engagement
- Able to demonstrate senior contribution to key people engagement projects or inclusion programmes.
- Working with senior allies and leadership teams to ensure they are equipped to champion various inclusion agendas.
- Deliver or organise insightful and impactful awareness sessions.
- Responding to regular VIEW survey feedback from colleagues.
- Collaborate with the Talent Development team on any relevant programmes.
Knowledge, skills and experience
Experience
- Demonstrable experience of working in diversity and inclusion at the managerial level.
- Turning strategic guidance into action-plans for teams and the organisation.
- Delivering organisational-wide inclusion projects or culture change programmes.
- Delivering inclusion responsibilities in a legal or professional services environment is an advantage but not essential.
- Passionate about various inclusion agendas through own lived experience or known for being an authentic ally for different inclusion agendas.
- Senior engagement when raising awareness and identifying actions.
- Built an external network of inclusion contacts and invests in ongoing learning as a senior inclusion specialist.
Knowledge and skills
- Ability to be creative and innovative.
- Able to share inclusion best practice.
- Project management and delegation.
- Ongoing learner who enjoys discovering about evolving inclusion practices.
- Relevant knowledge of legislative and statutory requirements regarding inclusion.
- Self-motivated when making progress on a strategic and operational level.
- A proactive collaborator who enjoys championing a range of inclusion agendas.
