Deputy Head of Risk

The opportunity for you
This is a senior specialist position at the heart of Taylor Wessing’s Risk Management function. The role is responsible for driving high‑quality AML and financial crime compliance across the firm. Working closely with the Business Acceptance Manager, MLRO,Director of Risk, Head of Risk and other senior stakeholders, you will act as a trusted subject‑matter expert on AML processes, sanctions,conflicts, data, OCGs and regulatory expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the principal point of contact for partners and fee‑earners on all business acceptance matters.
- Lead day‑to‑day Business Acceptance operations, including acting as an escalation point for the Business Acceptance Manager and team.
- Provide expert advice on sanctions, conflicts of interest, and financial crime, supporting the MLRO and Director of Risk where required.
- Manage key AML responsibilities, including the annual AML Risk Assessment and acting as the main contact for the Independent AML Audit.
- Oversee compliance processes, including staying updated on legislation, delivering training, and supervising responses to Outside Counsel Guidelines and Client Questionnaires.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Strong technical expertise in UK AML regulations and financial crime compliance within a legal or professional services environment.

Demonstrated ability to interpret complex information, assess risk, and provide clear, evidence‑based recommendations.

Experience resolving conflicts of interest, balancing regulatory obligations with the commercial and international needs of a partnership-led organisation.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels across UK and international offices.
