The opportunity for you

 

Taylor Wessing is a leading international law firm that prides itself on innovation and excellence in service delivery across various sectors. Our London office is home to a busy Arbitration team handling complex cross-border cases. We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate with over 6 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) and significant arbitration experience to enhance the practice. The practice is currently a four partner practice which is looking to grow significantly over the next 3-5 years. The group has a good balance of investor-state and commercial work, across a variety of different industry sectors.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Lead arbitration cases and play a key role in formulating strategy.
  • Engage in written advocacy by taking responsibility for pleadings, witness statements, legal briefs, and other submissions.
  • Hold an interest in oral advocacy and the ability to communicate through effective presentation of arguments during hearings and other proceedings.
  • Provide insightful legal analysis and advice on complex issues pertaining to international arbitration law.
  • Conduct legal research on comparative and cross-jurisdictional issues in international commercial law.
  • Liaise with clients to provide regular updates on case progress and strategic advice tailored to their specific objectives.
  • Mentor junior lawyers by providing guidance on arbitration procedures, legal writing techniques, and client management.
  • Actively engage in and support practice development including representing the firm at conferences and sector events.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience

 

  • Qualified solicitor, ideally with at least 6 years' PQE in arbitration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in handling complex international arbitrations involving high-value disputes.
  • Proven track record of successful written and (ideally) oral advocacy skills within an arbitration context.
  • In-depth understanding of various institutional rules and practices governing international arbitration proceedings.
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with the ability to distil complex legal principles into clear arguments.
  • Exceptional communication skills - both written and verbal - capable of engaging effectively with clients, tribunals, witnesses, experts, and peers alike.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while ensuring the highest quality work product.
