With 1200+ lawyers, 300+ partners, 28 offices and 17 jurisdictions we are looking to expand our Business Development  team, with the addition of a Business Development, Marketing & Communications Assistant.

 

The opportunity for you

 

We are looking for ambitious and hardworking recent graduates to join our Business Development, Marketing and Communications (BDMC) team. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn about business development, marketing, and communications within a professional services environment through structured rotations across four key areas. 

 

You will develop a deep understanding of how business development, marketing and communications activity supports firm strategy and helps drive the firm's success.

 

Based in our award-winning Liverpool office, you will provide an exceptional level of support to our department and the wider firm. The BDMC Operations team which you will be a part of, provides support for our offices in the UK, Ireland, Middle East and US (UKIME).

 

You will be line managed by the BDMC Operations Manager with a dotted line into a Senior Manager within the function in which you are currently working. The BDMC assistants fall within the management responsibility of the Head of Marketing Technology and Operations.

 

Key responsibilities

 

The initial two-years of the role are structured as four rotations (similar to a legal training contract) where you will spend 6 months embedded with a team to learn what they do and how they do it.

 

Following completion of the programme you will either:

  • Remain within the BDMC operations team as a BDMC Assistant.
  • Apply for promotion to an Executive level position either within the Operations team or one of our practice, sector or specialist teams.

 

The teams are:

 

Business Development

 

  • Business development I The team works closely with practice and sector groups to identify and pursue business and client relationship development opportunities. Skills you will develop include:
    • BD Projects I Helping organise and support events and projects/initiatives led by business development.
    • Awards & Rankings I Preparation and submission of award submissions and third-party accolades/recognition.
    • Relationship Management I Managing relationships with key clients and intermediaries and identifying new opportunities.
    • Research I Researching and preparing information for client meetings. Assisting with strategies to identify gaps to offer additional services to existing clients.
    • Systems | Using various BD systems to plan, budget and track travel, secondments and referrals.

 

Marketing

 

  • Marketing I The team works to elevate the Taylor Wessing brand through targeted campaigns, marketing activities and events that highlight our expertise and achievements. They manage our marketing materials and sponsorships, execute events both online and offline, as well as oversee digital marketing efforts including website and social media. Skills you will develop include:
    • Campaigns and content I Involvement in the creation and execution of ideas for marketing campaigns for the firm and our practice and sector teams; understanding our brand guidelines; writing and proofreading content.
    • Events I Managing event invitations and mailing lists; preparing materials; helping during events; following up afterwards and tracking success.
    • Digital I Posting and editing content on our website; setting up email marketing campaigns; creating and scheduling social media posts.
    • Design I Editing brochures and marketing collateral, helping create design concepts for specific campaigns.

 

Communications

 

  • Communications I The team handles both internal and external (media-facing) communications for the firm, sharing stories and news about our clients, capabilities, and people. Externally, they manage press relations and reputational issues. Internally, they work to ensure all colleagues understand the firm's vision and strategy, major change projects and operational issues.  Skills you will develop include:
    • Brand I Learning Taylor Wessing's tone of voice and writing style; drafting/editing content to match this style.
    • PR/external communications I Reporting on press mentions/media activity, drafting press releases and deal announcements.
    • Internal communications I Gathering/writing content for internal communications channels, including our intranet; supporting firmwide communication initiatives.

 

Marketing technology and operations

 

  • Marketing technology and operations I The team manage our marketing systems and support the BDMC team to deliver operational excellence. We evaluate new tools (including AI) to increase the use of tech in the delivery of client-facing BD and marketing activities and drive efficiency in our operating model. Skills you will develop include:
    • Pitching I Working with the BD and pitch teams on elements of the pitch process to drive profitable revenue growth, including research, client and competitor analysis, writing tailored responses, and preparing teams for pitch meetings.
    • Marketing technology I Learning how our marketing technology systems work together and the importance of data in a law firm; reporting using data from a variety of sources; trialling new tech for the firm, including generative AI tools.
